Safeguarding Policy

Kitara’s commitment to protect children and vulnerable people from harm, abuse, exploitation, and neglect across programmes, content, and digital services.

1. Zero-tolerance standard

Kitara Foundation applies a zero-tolerance safeguarding standard. Every team member, volunteer, and community contributor is expected to protect children from harm, abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

2. Core principles

Best interests of the child come first.
Need-to-know access for child-sensitive information.
No public identification of children without verified consent and risk review.
Prompt escalation of concerns to designated safeguarding leads.
Secure documentation and audit trails for reports and referrals.

3. Photos, stories, and community content

Programme content featuring children requires explicit consent and risk review before publication. Community members must not upload photos or stories of children without appropriate permission. Kitara may refuse or remove content that creates safeguarding risk.

4. Kitara Safe Response

Missing-child, GBV, assault, abuse, neglect, and urgent safeguarding concerns can be submitted through the confidential Safe Response intake. The system creates a protected case for triage, referral tracking, and follow-up by authorised staff only.

If someone is in immediate danger, call emergency services first: Child Helpline 116, GBV helpline 1195, or police/emergency response through 999 or 112.

5. Privacy and data protection

Safeguarding data is handled under our Privacy Notice. Privacy requests related to Safe Response may be limited where disclosure would put a child or other person at risk, or where law requires retention.
